Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic and public talker. She was the creator of Feminist Frequency, a web site with video content and blogs analyzing the portrayals of females in pop culture. Determined to challenge the assumptions that are associated with females in popular culture, she also tries on issues related to the targeted harassment of women and the other minorities of individuals in the internet space. Sarkeesian, who holds an MS in Social and Political Thought with a degree from York University, is also well-known as a sought-after public speaking. She has presented speeches at TEDxWomen's XOXO and the United Nations Broadband Working Group to Gender. Passionate about issues of gender identity and feminism from the age of 7, she started her own website Feminist Frequency in the year 2009 when she was being a student at the University. An ambitious woman planned to create a web-series which would explore the gender roles in video games. But, she discovered herself at the center of a harassment online campaign. However, the harassment didn't discourage her. It only strengthened her journalistic skills as a feminist. Her numerous contributions to the feminist field are recognized with numerous prizes.
